I know that a large majority of my readers are already professionals with many years of experience behind them, but I also know that there are readers who are just starting out in the exciting world of project management.
Today’s article is aimed at all of you, who are at this starting point or professional reorientation.
Project management is a professional area with spectacular growth potential for the next decade, so if you are thinking of reorienting your career or specializing in this area, do not hesitate!
The main problem is usually (as in other areas of specialization), where to start and how to gradually climb the steps on the way to the top.
My advice is that you inform yourself and advise yourself well, train yourself, and, if possible, with a clearly defined objective/goal.
Personally, it helped me (and a lot) to train with the PMBOK at the time and pass the CAPM Certification, which had no requirements other than hours of training, unlike the PMP certification, which also requires professional experience of at least 36 months.
Today there are several training and certification options that can help you grow in the area and also enhance your CV, without the need for previous experience in project management.
I will comment on them below:
Project Management Ready Certification from PMI.org
This certification is new this year and is designed for those who want to start in project management. No prior studies of any kind or professional experience are necessary.
Although from my point of view, it is perhaps too basic, and for a little more effort you can obtain the CAPM or PM2 and have greater international recognition and curricular impact.
CAPM Certification – Certified Associate In Project Management From PMI.org
The CAPM certification is the basic PMI certification, which accredits good theoretical knowledge, but does not certify professional experience.
It is only necessary to have completed 23 hours of training in project management and pass the exam.
It is a very good option to get started and have a detailed vision of good management practices and tools/techniques of the profession.
PM2Alliance PM2 Essentials Certification
The certification that demonstrates your knowledge of the PM2 methodology, was developed by the European Commission. No previous knowledge or experience is required.
PM2Alliance PM2 Advanced Certification
Advanced level certification in PM2 methodology. It does not require prior training or professional experience (and to pass this exam, it is recommended to have experience or to carry out a good preparation training, since it is not easy at all).
Professional Scrum Master Certification From Scrum.org
The Scrum.org PSM I certification also has no entry requirements and is a good way to prove your knowledge of the Scrum framework.
The Scrum Master Certification is recommended if you work in agile teams on a daily basis or want to focus on a Scrum Master or Product Owner role.
Resume:
All these certifications can be done at home or in the office, without the need to go to a face-to-face center.
I personally found setting a training and certification goal an important first step in making your way in the profession.
